Experience
I have a Master's Degree in Asian studies from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I spent 17 years working for the U.S. Army as an adviser and analyst on Northeast Asian policy. I am currently working on completing a PhD in Japanese history and another Master's Degree in military history. During my time in the military, I worked in four countries and I worked with partners that came from over 20 different countries. I lived in Japan for seven years and worked as a translator and interpreter, policy adviser, and a liaison. However, my favorite experience was training junior soldiers and giving them the tools they needed to succeed. In terms of tutoring, I am available to assist students with United States history, foreign language, social studies, English, history, government and politics, human geography, European history, art history, public speaking, English grammar and syntax, Japanese, and Japanese language and culture. My philosophy as a tutor involves providing students with practical applications for what they are learning. Students tend to have a better grasp on a topic if they can understand why the subject matter is important. In terms of hobbies, I enjoy studying history, watching college football, reading, and travelling.
