Experience

Effective, warm, and caring tutor. I do test prep (SAT I and SAT Subject Tests. ACT) and one on one academic tutoring. I specialize in tutoring high school and college students in mathematics (ranging from algebra I to calculus II). Nearly every student I have tutored and currently tutor for math (provided they follow my advice and complete the work I assign them) have gone from getting failing grades on their math tests/courses to achieving high Bs and As on their exams after 2-4 hours worth of tutoring sessions with me. I diagnose exactly why my students are struggling with applying mathematical concepts. I make sure they understand the concepts at the most fundamental level so that they can tackle more advanced concepts and skills from a solid foundation. My Tutoring/Teaching Philosophy: I try to find a teaching approach that makes tackling a subject interesting and, hopefully, fun. My student, the parents and I are a team pursuing a common goal - the student's mastery of a subject and having their grades/scores reflect their mastery. I am invested in my students' success and I encourage frank communication. My overarching role as a tutor is to teach my student to become independent learners and to help them develop & implement strategies that will help them succeed both in the short term and in the long run. I approach sessions in a structured but flexible manner - we can approach the material in many ways to find whatever method works best for the student. Rate: Standard Hourly Fee (tutor student at their home): $50.00 (for HS level course) - $60.00 (AP level, college course, Test Prep) Cancellation: 12 hour notice required

Hobbies

Hobbies/Interests: hiking, finding new music, repurposing old furniture I have 2 younger siblings so that is where my very first experience with tutoring started. I love learning concepts and theories even when there is no obvious practical application for them (yet...). I am currently taking some time to tackle some off before I begin applying for graduate programs (in the neuroscience field).
